The real thing! Using sharp chisels craftsmen cut the steel plates into shape. Apprentices do base paint and more mundane details. Village painters hand paint important details. Distressed finish is layered on and the final step is a hand rub with dark colored beeswax. A slight push sets the whale in motion. Mouth opens and eye moves as the whale rocks.
